Tonight as my son was going to bed, I kissed and hugged him as usual. After our usual bit of banter I wished him good night. But just as I was walking out of the room he shouted out his last thought.
He often does this.... something pops into his head just as I'm walking out and he just has to ask. Tonight it was, "Can doctors at a hospital give you six fingers?"
"W..wh...what?" I replied eloquently.
He repeated his question, slowly, as if to make sure his dim father would understand this time.
"Ahh.... no, well actually they could, but they wouldn't." I immediately regretted being honest and putting the qualifier on there. I got out for tonight, but tomorrow I get to explain about transplants and immune rejection, not to mention the ethical reasons most doctors would refuse to perform such an operation.
What an odd question, but that's kids for you I suppose.
